Objectives: The intended result of this activity is increased knowledge/competence, and upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
  • Review the definition of atypical diabetes.
  • Discuss the definition and prevalence of monogenic forms of diabetes
  • Describe two major forms of monogenic diabetes.
  • State when we should consider genetic testing for patients with diabetes.
  • Discuss Wolfram syndrome, a genetic form of diabetes and optic nerve atrophy.
