Objectives:
The intended result of this activity is increased knowledge/competence, and upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Clarify the scope of the problem of neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS) aka neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS).
- Evaluate non-pharmacologic treatment in the care of the mother-infant dyad.
- Analyze the benefits of a functional assessment tool in the management of an infant with NOWS.
- Identify the difference in neonatal outcomes for infants managed with Eat, Sleep, Console (ESC) vs those managed with the Finnegan scoring tool.
- Evaluate when discharge follow up is necessary for the prenatally opioid exposed infant.
